1st Anniversary Extravaganza

Local business owner and Lumberton native Felicia Evans Long and her husband Tim Long will celebrate Sweet Candy Café's first year in business. Join the 1st Year Celebration Extravaganza on November 30, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., located at 212 North Chestnut in Historic Downtown. Sweet Candy Café will offer various confectionary treats for purchase, complimentary beverages, snacks and coffee. The public is invited to attend this wondrous fall event with opportunity to enter to win a "Sweet Swag Bag" courtesy of Sweet Candy Café (presence not necessary to win).

Special event guest Police Chief Mike McNeill will be available for "Meet the Chief." Evans Long will present special gifts in honor of the confectionery's Lifesaver's Appreciation sweet awards.

The fall 2012 Grand Opening of Sweet Candy Café was nearly derailed by an October 12 fire that destroyed several local businesses in downtown Lumberton, including the original store location at 310 North Elm Street. The Longs lost significant inventory in the October fire but have rebuilt with the help of the community, a restoration grant from the City of Lumberton, and support of building owner Richard "Dick" Taylor.

"We extend a special thank you to Mr. Taylor for how he has assisted us during the rebuild and transition into our new space since the fire," says Evans Long. "His help and support have been crucial in bringing Sweet Candy Café to the Lumberton community."

Evans Long is hoping to add more value to her confectionery, with plans to bring a Candy Showcase to the store in 2014. The showcase will be a great opportunity to display a variety of sweet treats for brides, non-profits, corporate events and more. Currently, Sweet Candy Café offers gift cards and a special gift center.

"We hope to bring our confectioneries to local grocery stores and hotels," says Evans Long.

Evans Long, a 1994 Shaw University graduate and 2008 University of Phoenix graduate, has always desired to open a candy store in her hometown of Lumberton because of her love for confectionary. Sweet Candy Café is a fun unique candy store with old-fashioned candies from the past and present. Evans Long believes you can build your dreams one day at a time.

Sweet Candy Café is the sister company to Sweet Events and Planning, LLC, founded by Evans Long and her husband in 2008. Evans Long has been featured in The Knot DC Wedding Magazine as a top event planner and the company's Signature Candy Parlor™ has been featured in other print articles.
